Appliance fire-safety basics
Good maintenance and attention to abnormal heat, smell and electrical behaviour matter more than trying to diagnose a fire-risk fault at home.
High-value habits
- Follow the manufacturer installation and maintenance instructions.
- Keep dryer lint filters and approved exhaust paths maintained.
- Do not ignore scorching, hot plugs/sockets, arcing/crackling sounds or repeated protective-device operation.
- Avoid improvised extension/adaptor arrangements for large appliances when installation instructions call for a suitable fixed outlet.
- Register appliances and check official recall information.
Dryer airflow is a safety issue
Restricted lint/vent airflow can increase drying time and heat. Clean the lint filter as instructed and maintain the venting system.
