Dishwasher Clicking: Normal or a Problem?

Brief clicks can come from valves, relays, detergent dispensers, drain components or door mechanisms during normal stage changes.

Often normal when

  • Clicks are brief and correlate with fill/drain/dispenser events.
  • Cleaning and draining remain normal.
  • No arcing smell, heat or electrical protection trip occurs.

Investigate when

  • Rapid repetitive clicking accompanies failed start/fill.
  • A crackling/arcing sound or burning smell is present.
  • The appliance stops mid-cycle or displays a fault.
