Dryer Tumbles During Cooldown: Normal or a Problem?

Many dryers intentionally tumble without active heat near the end of a cycle to cool the load, reduce creasing or protect fabrics.

Often normal when

  • Display indicates cooldown/crease-care.
  • Heat has stopped and drum movement is intermittent or time-limited.
  • Cycle ends normally.

Investigate when

  • Drum never stops or controls do not respond.
  • Heat remains excessive during supposed cooldown.
  • Burning smell, smoke or abnormal scraping occurs.
Use your exact manual: Manufacturers intentionally program different pauses, fans, anti-crease periods and cooling behaviour. Model documentation is the final reference.
