Refrigerator Runs a Long Time: Normal or a Problem?
Long compressor/fan run times can be normal after installation, large grocery loads, frequent door opening, hot weather or temperature changes.
Often normal when
- Temperature reaches and maintains target.
- Door seals close properly and vents are clear.
- Run time reduces after the heavy load/heat condition passes.
Investigate when
- Food temperatures remain too warm.
- Heavy frost blocks airflow.
- Door does not seal or cabinet is poorly ventilated.
- Compressor repeatedly clicks off/on or surfaces overheat.
Use your exact manual: Manufacturers intentionally program different pauses, fans, anti-crease periods and cooling behaviour. Model documentation is the final reference.
