Warm Refrigerator Sides: Normal or a Problem?
Some refrigerators reject heat through condenser tubing in cabinet walls or near exterior surfaces. Warmth can therefore be normal, particularly after loading, door openings or in hot rooms.
Often normal when
- Cooling performance remains normal.
- The warmth is moderate and follows periods of compressor operation.
- There is no burning smell, smoke or electrical symptom.
Investigate when
- Surface becomes dangerously hot or discolours.
- Cooling deteriorates while compressor runs continuously.
- Ventilation clearances are blocked or condenser areas are heavily obstructed.
- Burning smell, sparking or repeated electrical trips occur.
Use your exact manual: Manufacturers intentionally program different pauses, fans, anti-crease periods and cooling behaviour. Model documentation is the final reference.
