Seasonal care
Seasonal appliance care
Ambient temperature, ventilation, frozen drains, heavy holiday use and long vacancies can change how appliances behave.
| Season | Appliance | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Summer / heat wave | Refrigerator/freezer | Hot room temperatures, frequent door openings and warm groceries increase run time. Maintain ventilation and monitor food temperatures. |
| Winter / cold utility space | Washer/dishwasher/AC | Frozen hoses/condensate drains and out-of-range ambient temperatures can affect operation. Check the appliance’s permitted ambient range. |
| Winter | Vented dryer | Ensure the outside vent opens freely and is not blocked by debris, ice or snow. |
| Holiday cooking | Oven/range/dishwasher | Heavy consecutive use creates more heat and load. Keep ventilation clear and do not ignore new smells/electrical symptoms. |
| Long vacancy | Refrigerator/freezer | Decide whether to leave running or empty/defrost/off according to manufacturer guidance; prevent trapped moisture and odours. |
| Moving house | Washer/refrigerator | Use transport bolts/handling instructions where applicable and allow required settling time for refrigeration appliances per manufacturer guidance. |
